Eucalyptus grandis, commonly known as flooded gum or rose gum, is a tall tree with smooth bark, rough at the base fibrous or flaky, grey to grey-brown. At maturity, it is often 40 metres (130 ft) tall, though the largest specimens can exceed 80 metres (250 ft) tall.
Eucalyptus grandis is a very fast growing tree, a speciman of couple of years old can be 14 metres high, the tree has a very straight trunk and is highly regarded as a very good quality timber. It is grown extensively overseas in particular in Brazil where vast areas have been established for paper production
Although this species is tropical and sub tropical in origin it has proved highly adapatable with successful plantings as far south as Melbourne.
