ERA Nurseries operates a modern 'World-Class' Nursery facility located on a 4ha site on the southern boundary of Hamilton in the Western Districts of Victoria.
The land was purchased in late 2003 as a 'Greenfield's site and the initial infrastructure was completed for the first production year in the Summer of 2004/5.
Since then the business has been considerably enhanced and all the ancillary projects completed. It is now a very modern production facility with innovative materials handling and 'state of the art' production systems.
These include the latest air-vacuum seeding and robotic seedling transplant equipment.
ERA has also been very innovative in the way we have approached the considerable challenge of moving vast amounts of containerised plant material around the site. Using heavy equipment such as fork-lift trucks has OH&S implications but not so much the lightweight 'golf-buggies' (and trailers) which are now used routinely for moving stock around the nursery.
ERA has a major commitment to its OH&S responsibilities and as a result an excellent industrial safety record. We have policies and procedures in place which are clearly understood by both management and employees and which are clearly directed at maintaining this record.
We now also have a major 'in-house' transport and logistics capability delivering large volumes of plant material over long distances and usually within stringent time frames.
ERA Nurseries is the only Victorian production nursery outside the metropolitan area to have myrtle rust accreditation (ICA-42).
